Peggy Monte-Sano, wife of an avid sailor, started Gifted from the basement of her Larchmont home in 1978. Frustrated with the redundancy of the awards her husband would bring home from regattas, Peggy started to explore options beyond the silver revere bowl. Venturing into the realm of decanters, wooden boxes, and elegant serving trays, Peggy tried to provide trophies that were elegant with a practical side. This is where Gifted's goal to provide a service that provides quality, classic pieces began. When her daughter, Penny took over in the late 1980's, the business began to expand its inventory and clientele. Based on her mother's values of originality, Penny took Gifted to the next level. She started outfitting sporting events outside of sailing and incorporated her creativity to create a catalogue of items that offered pleasant alternatives to the norm. Because of Penny's dedication to working closely with clients making sure their individual needs are met, Gifted's trophies can now be seen at events up and down the eastern seaboard. Today Gifted has found it's way into the family's third generation. Peggy's granddaughters (Penny's daughters), Pier and Christina, have been added to the team and are ready to bring the company out of the basement and into the 21st century. However, with the future in mind, the girls refuse to forget the past. To this day, Pier and Christina remain true to Gifted's original values of simplicity and elegance and promise to deliver the same quality service their grandmother and mother have been doing for over thirty years. |
